The inaugural Knocknarea Mountain Loop which is an 8 Mile Run and Walk takes place on Sunday 29th of July in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. The walk kicks off at 10.00am, followed at 10.30am by the run.
This is a AAI Registered event, register on the day from 8.00am to 9.45am at Sligo Enterprise Centre (Airport Business Park), Strandhill or on Saturday the 28th July at Strand Celtic Clubhouse at Strandhill Community Park. Entry fees for the run and walk are economically priced at €10 for the run and €5 for the walk.
The run and walk are open to people of all abilities. The course is essentially an 8 mile loop around the picturesque Knocknarea Mountain, starting and finishing in Strandhill. There will be two water stations on the course as well as mile markers to allow contestants to keep track of their progress.
The race and walk promise to be a fun event, but the route holds challenges for both the novice and experienced runner, with two category 5 climbs – the first of these being the locally well-known Glen Road. For more detail on the course check out the course map.
There are prizes for all categories and refreshments will be served in the Strand Celtic Clubhouse afterwards. The run is being held as a fundraiser for Strand Celtic FC and the club hope to make the run and walk an annual event.
