Good Tidings from Strandhill this Christmas

Christmas is almost upon us once again and it’s always nice to hear some heartwarming stories as the cold settles in.

December brought the news that Dan Leydon, a local bodyboarder and illustrator/graphic designer, had been commissioned by Nike to create the artwork for their latest football boot, the Nike GSII. Dan’s passionate support for Liverpool and Barcelona stood him in good stead, and you can see his full series of artwork here.

This month also saw the launch of “The Santa Adventures.” The stories are written and illustrated with colourful hand drawings by the Sligo-born architect John Dorman. John has been writing these Santa adventures for over 25 years and his niece and fellow architect Eliz Clyne has now designed and published one of the adventures as an ebook. It is available from Amazon for download to Kindle Fire, i-pad and smart phones.

And another triumph was for Strandhill student Laura Gaynor, who got through to the final round of the ‘HeadsUp Movie Awards’ on RTÉ Two with her one-minute video production. Following a public vote to decide the winner, we were delighted to hear that Laura had won the contest! Watch her award-winning film “Unfolded” here and have a look at the award ceremony here
